In terms of SANS10142-1 the electrical installation at a premise is legally viewed as a Single Original Installation that may or may not have multiple additions. Both the Original Installation and any additions require test reports and Certificates of Compliance – Original and Supplementary. The addition of a Solar system to an existing premise requires a SSEG Test report and a Supplementary Certificate of Compliance. Alternative Energy Companies or Solar Installers must issue a Certificate of Compliance that will specifically cover the work and changes that they are responsible for. This is the Supplementary Certificate of Compliance.
By its definition a Supplementary Certificate needs to reference a Valid Original Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for the premises at which the system is being installed. An Electrical Certificate of Compliance is valid for a period of 24 months from date of issue. Furthermore, any changes to the wiring of the premises (additions, extensions etc..) - even within this validity period - will require the issue of a Supplementary Certificate of Compliance.
Insurance companies will require you to furnish them with the Supplementary Certificate of Compliance for any changes. This Certificate will reference the number of the Original Certificate of Compliance. The assumption of the Insurance companies is that your Original Certificate of Compliance is still valid. Should a claim arise due to any electrical issue and the insurer finds that there were alterations to the premise wiring without the issue of an Original Certificate of Compliance or a Supplementary Certificate, then the claim may be refused.
Current Automation Mbombela can do your Supplementary COC on your system, the requirements are:
A Valid Original Certificate of Compliance - This must be submitted to us on booking a Supplementary COC.
Physical Compliance - IF your system is not fully compliant, we can advise you on how to ensure it is compliant and whether or not we can do the work to ensure it's compliance, however a Supplementary COC will not be issued if it is NOT.
Workmanship - Our Company will NOT accept any responsibility on workmanship or products WE did not purchase or install.
Payment - A deposit is required for a call-out and all tests done. Once your system achieves compliance the Supplementary COC will be billed and needs to be paid before the certificate may be collected from our premises.
